DETROIT (WJBK) -

Pretty soon you'll see lion statues all over metro Detroit that will be themed and filled with color.  However, the Children's Charities Coalition and the Detroit Lions Foundation need local artists to step up and get involved.

"LionTown 2012 is a fundraiser for the coalition, as well as the Lions Foundation.  We're looking for artists to decorate these majestic creatures to bring them to life.  They'll hit the streets in mid-August and be on display for a couple of months, and then on October 16, we'll bring them to Ford Field and we'll auction them off in a big, fun party fundraiser for the coalition and the Lions Foundation," said Cathy Weissenborn with the Children's Charities Coalition.

Artists have until Thursday, June 7 to get involved.

Connie Beckett with the Children's Charities Coalition also told us this is really a great way to connect the city with the suburbs.

"It's a wonderful opportunity for families to come out.  There will be maps that are printed so they can locate where each one of the lions are."

If you are a local artist and want more information about how you can get involved, visit www.liontown2012.com or call (248) 258-5511.
