We've all heard tired adages related to your appearance, including
"Dress for success" and "You never get a second chance to make a first
impression," but there is more than a kernel of truth to those overused
sayings. You can have a stellar resume and diamond-studded background,
but if the interviewer's first impression of you is less than
satisfactory, you can kiss the job "goodbye".
While it's rare to overdress for an interview, it's not looked down upon.
However,
showing up underdressed is common and can be seen as a sign that you
don't care about the job. This isn't college anymore. You won't get away
with sweats and jeans that were part of your everyday attire. Instead,
dress neatly and professionally (think nice slacks and a button down
shirt, or even a suit).
If you're still unsure of what to
wear, you can always call or email the HR department of the company and
ask what attire is appropriate for your interview.
