DETROIT (AP) -

Three young men charged in the assault and carjacking of popular Detroit pastor and gospel singing icon Marvin Winans are scheduled to appear in court.

Twenty-year-old Detroit residents Montoya Givens and Christopher Moorehead and 18-year-old Brian K. Young of Macomb County's Clinton Township are scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing Friday. All three are charged with carjacking, unarmed robbery and conspiracy.

The charges carry up to life in prison.

Winans was attacked May 16 while pumping gas. The robbers took his SUV, Rolex watch and cash.

The 54-year-old sustained bruises and scrapes. He's pastor of Perfecting Church and delivered singer Whitney Houston's eulogy in February.
