The annual Puerto Rican Day Parade has seen thousands of proud onlookers line Fifth Avenue waving red, white and blue of the Puerto Rican flag on Sunday.

The parade featured many politicians and celebrities as they walked down Fifth Avenue to the sounds of salsa music.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Governor Andrew Cuomo, Senator Charles Schumer, Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez (D-NY) were just a few of the politicians in attendance. Actor/comedian John Leguizamo, musician/activist Wyclef Jean, New York Giants receiver Victor Cruz and Fox News anchor Geraldo Rivera were some of the celebrities at the annual parade.

Madelyn Lugo, the Parade's Chairperson, announced that this year's Parade theme is "Puerto Ricans and Higher Education", in recognition of the outstanding achievements and contribution of Puerto Ricans at all-levels in adult and continuing education.

The Parade's Grand Marshal is Dr. Félix Matos-Rodríguez, President of Hostos Community College (CUNY). The Godfather is Manuel J. Fernós, President of Puerto Rico's Inter-American University.

The parade marches along Fifth Avenue from 44th Street to 79th Street and has been an annual event in New York City since 1958.
