The results of a recent poll conducted by Foster McCollum White and Associates places President Barack Obama and Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney into a statistical dead heat, making Michigan a toss-up state in the months leading to this November's general election. Obama leads Romney with a thin 1.41 point margin, 46.89% to 45.48%.

1800 people participated in the state wide survey with a margin of error for this polling sample of 2.32%.

In 2008, Obama beat Senator John McCain by a wide margin, 57% to 40%. Many political insiders considered Michigan as a sure thing for Obama in 2012, but this poll points to a much tighter race.

The Foster McCollum White poll says the scandals involving Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano and his administration is having an impact on President Obama and the perception of Democratic candidates seeking election in November.

19% of Democrats statewide say they are less likely to support President Obama and Democrats in the wake of the Ficano scandals.

37% of All voters statewide say they are less likely to support President Obama and Democrats in the wake of the Ficano scandals.

The poll asked likely voters if they think Bob Ficano should resign.

71% of Democrats statewide think Ficano should resign or be removed from office.

78% of all voters statewide think Ficano should resign or be removed from office.

83% of Wayne County likely voters think Ficano should resign or be removed from office.

84% of Detroit likely voters think Ficano should resign or be removed from office.
