Water recedes after flooding in Cannon Falls

Posted: Updated:

After days of rain and rising river levels, flooding in Cannon Falls is beginning to recede.

As of 7:30 a.m. Saturday, the Cannon River had fallen 8 feet from its crest on Friday, while the Little Cannon River was less than 12 inches from being back within its banks.

The city of Cannon Falls says flood damage is extensive, and that it will be a number of days before an estimate of damage costs can be determined.

National Weather Service meteorologist Mike Griesinger says 8.4 inches of rain fell in Cannon Falls on Thursday, causing the Cannon River to rise 28 inches in a few hours early Friday and the Little Cannon River to rise 39 inches.
