
Five young, well-traveled Americans (including two Michiganders, both Crain's 20 in their 20's honorees for 2012) are taking two old Subaru Foresters, covering them in khaki fabric to make them look like a pair of Chuck Taylor shoes, and driving from Goodwood, UK to Goodhope, South Africa during the summer of 2012. They're called Team Shoebaru, for obvious reasons.
They are raising funds for a new school on the grounds of an American-run orphanage in Ethiopia, the Awassa Children's Project. The center currently houses over 100 children, many of them orphaned in the AIDS epidemic.
