Over the weekend of June 22-24, 2012, the Green Living Festival will bring to downtown Rochester, MI tens of thousands of people eager to learn about green living and wellness, and seeking healthy, eco-friendly products, services and programs.
Fox 2 is an official TV sponsor for the event.
It's one of America's largest green events, and has been held in Rochester, MI for the past six years. In April 2006, MI Green Team staff co-founded the Earth Day Expo™ at Oakland University.
After three years of steady growth at OU, a partnership with the City of Rochester brought the Earth Day event to "Main Street," where it grew to over 50,000 attendees and 200 exhibitors. To improve weather prospects and further increase attendance, the event is no longer scheduled around Earth Day and was renamed the Green Living Festival.
The event has consistently offered a wide variety of activities, and each year new programming and activities have been added. In 2009, a Connections Cafe' was initiated to allow greater networking and community-building opportunities. In the past two years, the event grew into a full weekend festival adding several special events including a parade, race, art fair, contests, awards ceremony and evening-hours Party for the Planet.
The word "green" gets thrown around a lot these days, but it's clearly become a fixture in the popular culture. It describes a positive response to unsustainable practices that have adversely impacted our quality of life. For the MI Green Team, "green" is an inclusive agenda to simultaneously promote economy, environment and community.
