WIXOM, Mich. (WJBK) -

Investigators say a fire sparked by a hot coffee pot may have led to the displacement of nearly 60 people at a Wixom apartment complex.

The fire broke out shortly before 9 p.m. Tuesday at The Village Apartments near Pontiac Trail and North Beck Road. A resident told police he had a coffee pot in his bathroom and it caught the shower curtain on fire. The tenant says he then grabbed the shower curtain, threw it in the trash and took the burning can into the hallway where the fire began to spread.

We're told one person suffered minor burns. Residents in all 33 apartments inside the affected building were evacuated, according to the Southeastern Michigan Region American Red Cross.

The fire remains under investigation.
