Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson launched the online MIGreatArtist competition Wednesday for visual artists who create original 2-D works.
Artists 18 years and older who live, work or attend school in one of the six Economic Growth Alliance counties – Genesee, Lapeer, Livingston, Macomb, Oakland, or Saint Clair – are able to submit up to five images for public voting. After the public votes, the top 20 artists are selected and a five-member jury of arts professionals will select five finalists. The MIGreatArtist winner will be determined by a combination of a jury score and public vote.
Oil, acrylic, watercolor, ink, pastel and collage art is welcomed for submission; however, photography and digital artwork is excluded.
The deadline to enter the contest is Friday, July 20. Voting and judging will begin shortly after, and a finalist will be announced on Friday, August 24.
Artists have a chance to win $2,000 in cash prizes and receive other prizes such as custom framing, exhibitions in several venues in Southeast Michigan, entrepreneurial training through Oakland County's One Stop Shop/Business Center and artists could also have their art work featured on a poster to promote one of Oakland County's signature quality of life events.
