Fourth of July fireworks and barbeques can be a recipe for disaster for your pets.
Many dogs are extremely fearful of thunder or loud noises such as fireworks. If your dog is left unattended, it can become so fearful that it will actually run away in order to distance itself from the noise.
To keep your pets safe make sure to never leave them unattended in a place where they could hurt themselves or run away. Make sure your pets have identification on them at all times. You can also distract your pet with a treat or activity that will keep it busy until the noise has ended.
If you find a lost pet, contact your local Animal Control right away.
Joanie Toole, the Animal Control supervisor at the Oakland Pet Adoption Center, brought in a six-year-old Chihuahua named Bounce to FOX 2 this morning. If you are interested in Bounce, please contact the shelter at (248) 391-4100 or visit the Oakland Pet Adoption Center web site for more animals up for adoption.
