DETROIT (WJBK) -

There's no place like home for a Detroit police officer and single mother of three, especially now that she's the winner of a house giveaway.

Dieasaree Curry has been on the force for 13 years and is always giving back to the city.  Now thanks to Fox 2's Charlie Langton, WXYT Radio and MHT Housing Incorporated, she'll have her very own stake in the neighborhood.

Officer Curry grew up in Detroit and had the opportunity to leave the city, but stayed committed to the area despite being shot on the job four times.

She's an amazing mom who has overcome so much, and the happy news brought her to tears.

"This is the start of my new life.  I get another chance and I just appreciate it.  I thank God.  I thank my family.  I thank everybody," said Curry.

Under the rules of the contest, she has to live in the home on Normandy for five years and pay utilities, then it's hers for good.

Neighbors also tell us they're happy to have a police officer living close by.
