Firefighters arrive at the Freedom Village apartments in Farmington Hills Tuesday.
FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. (WJBK) -
As many as 12 units were damaged during an early morning fire at a Farmington Hills apartment complex.
SkyFOX captured images over the blaze at the Freedom Village Apartments on Freedom Road and Orchard Lake Road around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday.
No one was injured thanks in part to an off-duty Southfield firefighter who alerted residents after seeing the flames from the road.
Resident Gary Burton also helped spread the word to neighbors. "I ran inside really quick and started banging on the doors telling everyone to get out," said Burton, a resident who tried to calm the flames with an extinguisher he found on the third floor.
Fire investigators believe the flames started on the deck of a second floor apartment. FOX 2's Al Allen reports the building owner is picking up the hotel tab for displaced residents.
