Legal battle continues over Detroit's financial agreement

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT (WJBK) -

The head of Detroit's law department is continuing her effort to block an agreement to fix the city's finances.

Krystal Crittendon indicated Thursday that she planned to move forward with the legal battle. In a letter written to council members, Crittendon writes: Please be advised that I, as Corporation Counsel, stand by my decision to have the court determine the validity of the Financial Stability Agreement as the good faith performance of my obligations to my client, the City of Detroit.

Mayor Dave Bing has said he wants City Council to fire Crittendon after she sued the state of Michigan to stop the critical financial deal. She said she sued the state, against Bing's wishes, because she has independent authority under Detroit's recently revised charter or constitution.

A judge dismissed the case last month. Crittendon wants the judge to reconsider.

The state says the litigation is frivolous. It has said the legal battle could put Detroit at risk of losing millions in revenue sharing payments for the cash-strapped city.
