A gas station clerk was robbed and knocked to the ground during a violent confrontation with a masked gunman.

Oakland County Sheriff's Deputies say the clerk was counting cash inside the BP gas station at 11 p.m. Wednesday night in the 47,000 block of Pontiac Trail in Commerce Township when a man wearing a white mask walked in and demanded money.

The clerk tried to wrestle with the man but was knocked to the ground. The suspect then escaped with almost $1,000. The clerk was not seriously hurt.

The suspect is described as a black male in this twenties, approximately 6 feet tall and he was wearing a black t-shirt and long red shorts.

Anyone with information about the identity of the gunman should contact the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.
