DETROIT (WJBK) -
"Got new carpet down, now I don't have the furniture to put on the carpet," said El'Tarell Copeland.
Fox 2 was flooded with calls and emails from viewers angry their cash and furniture are being held hostage.
Copeland worked 70 hour weeks for months to buy a couch. Now he's out $2,000.
"I have the paperwork here showing the final payment, zero balance on this brown couch," he said.
"I kept calling and calling, there was a loud beeping noise that sounded like the phone was going to fax," we were told by a woman who wished to remain anonymous.
Park Furniture on Eight Mile seems to have disappeared in the middle of the night just like Furniture Express, the store that was there previously.
"When I got up here, the door was locked. I walked all around. The place is full of furniture. The lights are on," the woman said.
She explained that she shelled out about $700 for a down payment and now has nothing to show for it. There are no forwarding numbers or addresses, just signs that show a non-descript piece of a mortgage document with Comerica Bank scribbled in black marker.
"I went down to Comerica and asked them about it and they said that the sign was fake. They spoke to corporate and the sign was fake," said the woman.
"They said ... that paper that's up here with their address is really this address and there was nothing they can do for me. They also told me to go see you, Channel 2," Copeland said.
Fox 2 went to the West Bloomfield address of the man listed as the president of Park Furniture, but no one was home, so we called him. There was no answer.
"Refund me my money. I don't even want the business of this company because they disrespected the people in this community by doing that," the woman said.
"The public should know they do not have the right to just take our money," said Copeland.
