DETROIT (AP) -- Five Detroit schools will end summer classes Tuesday after lunch because of temperatures that are expected to soar close to or above 100 degrees.
The district says Cody, Finney and Pershing high schools, the Osborn Campus and the Detroit International Academy will close early because the buildings don't have air conditioning.
All other schools will remain open Tuesday for the full academic day.
The National Weather Service reports that breezy, southwesterly winds are expected to bring a hot air mass into southeast Michigan on Tuesday. An excessive heat watch is in effect from Tuesday morning into the evening.
