Police officials in Detroit are expected to discuss where the department stands in compliance with two federal consent decrees, including one that deals with the use of force.
Chief Ralph Godbee is scheduled to meet Tuesday morning with members of the public during a command accountability meeting at Wayne State University.
The consent decrees are court-enforceable agreements with the Justice Department that mandates changes in how Detroit police officers are trained, use force, and how prisoners are housed.
The Justice Department began investigating the police department in 2000 after receiving complaints from residents. Federal authorities sued the city in June 2003 and the city signed the consent decrees that year.
