Detroit Council rejects proposed union cuts

Posted: Updated:

In a 5-4 vote, the Detroit City Council today voted against a plan approved by the city's financial advisory board that would make more than $100 million in cuts to the unionized workforce.

The board had approved the plan, which calls for a 10% wage cut and significant changes to health care and work rules, last week.

Even with the council's rejection, the financial board can implement the actions.

"Even if we vote no, I think it's still going to happen because of the financial stability agreement," said City Council President Charles Pugh over the weekend.

We'll have much more on this story tonight during FOX 2 News beginning at 5 p.m.
