Watch: Couple gets engaged inside Detroit Zoo's Polar Passage

ROYAL OAK, Mich. (WJBK) -
What seemed to be an ordinary television interview turned into a college student's surprise proposal.
FOX 2 cameras were rolling inside the Polar Passage Thursday as Danny Thwing popped the question to Melissa Beauchamp, his girlfriend of five years.
Beauchamp, an public relations intern at the Zoo, thought she was part of an interview about the zoo's internships. Little did she know that Thwing was waiting in the background with ring on hand. "Ever since I met you five years ago, I knew there was something special," Thwing told Beauchamp all while the zoo's polar bears swam above them.
"I had no idea that was happening," said Beauchamp. "That's amazing, I'm happy."
"I knew she had been anticipating (the proposal) for awhile and I wanted to do something crazy and special for her," said Thwing. "And I wanted it to be captured so she could always have it to watch."
The happy couple still have over a year left in college and plan to wed in the summer of 2014.
