There's plenty of motorcycle traffic on a stretch of Newton Rd. near Listeria St. in Commerce Township, not far from Detroit Bike Week. The annual event attracts thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts.

Police say Saturday night around 6:30 p.m. a couple on a motorcycle lost control and crashed head-on into a truck. The 39-year-old man who was driving died; his 47-year-old wife is in critical condition.

"I saw the girl underneath the truck and it broke my heart," said Misti Gardiner who lives nearby. "Then I saw someone was in the ditch over there and it was really heartbreaking and I saw the ambulances and they closed the road off."

Police say both victims were wearing helmets at the time of the accident. But, they also believe alcohol was a factor. The driver of the truck, a 30-year-old from Fenton, was not hurt. The victims names have not yet been released. It's not clear if they took part in the motorcycle festival.
