(WJBK) -
The Great Lakes State Fair will return to Michigan on Labor Day weekend at its new Novi location to celebrate agriculture's past traditions and future technologies.
The event, formerly known as the Michigan State Fair, will make its return following two years of absence after funding cuts in 2009.
Support and outreach from agricultural and business communities and Michigan's citizens have made it possible for the Great Lakes State Fair to become a new Michigan tradition as a private sector effort.
The Great Lakes State Fair will feature the "Michigan Pavilion" full of Michigan-made products as well as Shriners Circus and circus attractions on August 31 to September 3.
Along with a new name, the fair will be at a new location: the conference and banquet center Suburban Collection Showplace, a 320,000 sq. foot, 55-Acre, privately owned exposition, conference, and banquet center in Novi.
The fair was first held in Detroit in1849, which is the oldest fair in the U.S.
Tickets are required for this event, and when purchased online, they are offered at a discounted fee of $25 for adults age 13+ and $20 for children age 3-12. Tickets at the gate are $30 for adults and $25 for children.
