Day care provider moved operation after neglect charges

MAPLEWOOD, Minn. (KMSP) -

Investigators say a day care owner accused of hiding children in a shed because she didn't want to get caught caring for too many kids tried to re-open in a new location after her license was suspended.

Prosecutors already charged Jennifer Goldetsky with two counts of child endangerment and neglect after she was accused of locking three young boys in a shed behind her house without shoes or jackets in the middle of February while two social workers waited at her front door.

At that home, there's a rainbow-colored swing set and pool. It looks like the perfect playground for kids, but Washington County officials say Goldetsky has been playing games to beat the system herself.

Investigators say that after Goldetsky's license was temporarily suspended, she then relocated her child care business to her sister's home in Maplewood. Police paid her a visit in June to tell them that it was illegal to run a day care without a license.

"This does have the appearance on her part that she was attempting to circumvent the law by opening up in another county, and we don't find that acceptable," said Dan Pepin, of Washington County Community Services.

The state's website says Goldetsky's license is currently suspended, but Washington County Community Services says it's in the process of being revoked.

Prosecutors say it's unlikely she'll be charged with the misdemeanor offense of operating a day care without a license. In fact, she may be able to reopen her old day care soon while she appeals the child neglect and endangerment charges, if she chooses to do so.

Goldetsky's first court appearance is still a couple of weeks away.
