DETROIT (WJBK) -
From Al Kaline to Tim Allen, Detroit icons will be immortalized at the new Legends Plaza at the Detroit Historical Museum.
"We wanted to attract additional audiences, have greater appeal to more people. Somebody that might not be driving down Woodward and say, 'I want to learn about Detroit history' might very well want to say, 'Boy, I'd love to see Al Kaline's hand prints," said executive director and CEO Robert Bury.
On Tuesday, it was Barry Sanders who stepped up to the cement.
Now it's not easy to get the perfect hand print in cement.
"I actually worked with concrete a little bit. My dad did some small home repair stuff. I would've thought that I would've performed a little better, that I should've got it on the first try, but I'm sure they'll forgive me for that," said Sanders.
For an athlete who is in virtually every hall of fame he's been considered for, this, too, is a major honor.
"It's terrific when you can sort of stand out and be honored in this way."
