Where is 55-year-old Patrick Joseph Mikes? What happened to him? And if he has been harmed, who did it?
"The evidence found at a house makes it clear to us that there was a violent altercation that took place in the basement of the home," said Troy Police Captain Robert Redmond.
Detectives have been told that Mikes was last seen Friday evening around 5:30 by a neighbor and his two sons. One is 16 and the other is 21.
However, both waited to report their father missing until just before 11:00 a.m. on Sunday. The siblings told detectives their dad was riding his Cannondale SuperSix road bike wearing a yellow shirt and black biker shorts.
"We do need to find that bicycle. We do need to find Mr. Mikes," Redmond said.
A person of interest was arrested Sunday afternoon and has been sitting in a jail cell at Troy PD ever since. Redmond would not confirm at this point whether it is a relative or one of Mikes' sons.
"I'm not going to confirm who we have in custody."
However, investigators are sharing new information about this person of interest, pointing to some shady dealings that went down in Auburn Hills.
"Today what we had to do was work with Auburn Hills Police Department because during our investigation we discovered multiple counts of ... improper fraudulent transactions committed by the person we have in custody," Redmond explained.
Auburn Hills Police are calling it a case of credit card fraud. It is a felony and that person of interest is expected to be charged with three counts.
"Felony charges and so Auburn Hills decided to act on them now. Yes, it tied the person of interest in custody for another day. It gives us more time to go ahead and get things done. That's not necessarily why it was done that way. Anybody that has felony charges pending against them that obviously we should act in a quick manner to bring that matter to light," said Redmond. "With finding out what happened in Auburn Hills case, it helps a little bit as far as time frames of where certain people where at or certain things took place."
But is that crime and what cops uncovered at the Mikes' home in Troy connected?
"I can't say that the crime that he's being charged with is connected to the violent natured act that we're holding him for at this time," Redmond said.
The person of interest will be facing his Auburn Hills charges on Wednesday.
As far as the Troy case, police have been getting some good leads, but they could use more. When it comes to Mikes' bike, the handles are red, but they were covered with black tape. If you have any information at all, please call police.
