Microsoft relaunches Hotmail as Outlook

Posted: Updated:
(WJBK) -

Microsoft is saying goodbye to Hotmail.

The tech giant announced it's converting Hotmail into a revamped web-based version of its Outlook email program.

Microsoft say it's changing the web service to tie the email service more closely to other Microsoft services and give people a single hub for contacts on email, Facebook and Twitter.

Microsoft does not plan to generate revenue from text ads on Outlook that are tied to the subject lines of emails, much like Google's Gmail.

The email service will still be free and existing users will be able to keep their Hotamil addresses. New users will have to choose an Outlook domain.
