New developments involving the disappearance of a father from Troy. Police are now calling it a murder case, and they are zeroing in on the victim's oldest son.
Investigators say the evidence they found in the basement of a house on Homewood points to a violent assault so bloody that no one could have survived it. They also say the victim's oldest son appears to be lying.
Troy Police are beginning to untangle a web of lies that point to 21-year-old Patrick Mikes, Junior as a possible killer. The Notre Dame student home for summer break reported his 55-year-old father, Patrick Mikes, Senior, missing on Sunday and said his dad was last seen going for a bike ride Friday night.
Police now say that story is not true. They say Mikes' helmet and riding shoes were found at the home, items he would not go biking without, and they say Patrick Mikes, Junior exhibited suspicious behavior Friday night.
"Investigators have also obtained video evidence showing Patrick Mikes, Junior purchasing a quantity of cleaning supplies at a local store," said Troy Police Captain Robert Redmond.
Police say the victim's younger son, Andrew, who is not a suspect, now says he last saw his dad Thursday night. Mikes did not report to work on Friday morning.
As we reported, Patrick Mikes, Junior lives in the basement of the house on Homewood. He is currently accused of stealing his 16-year-old brother's credit card, and police are retracing his steps trying to account for the older son's whereabouts from Friday, July 27 until Sunday, July 29.
"We know parts of where he was at and when he was at certain places. There are other times that are unaccounted for. As we're working on those unexplained times, it will give us a better idea of where we will search," Redmond said.
Police tell us they are actively searching for a body, although they would not tell us where that search is taking place.
