Senate GOP candidates are 3 peas in a pod

LANSING, Mich. (WJBK) -

Three peas in a pod.

There's your Cliff Note's analysis of the first and last GOP U.S. Senate primary debate.

For undecided voters desperately searching for some contrast between Pete Hoekstra, Clark Durant and Randall Hekman, keep searching because this exchange did not produce much.

Ban Assault weapons? Each would vote no.

Forcing a 2/3 super majority vote on all future tax increases? Each would vote yes.

Privatizing Medicare? The three amigos agree on that too.

And on and on it went, as they each embraced saving the home mortgage income tax deduction and each is not afraid to talk to members of the other party just as long as they are not asked to compromise their values.

They even ganged up on poor Governor Snyder's bridge to Canada saying that if they had a chance to support federal aid for the project, they'd stiff their governor and vote no.
For those from the religious right of the GOP, watching this debate must have made them think they had died and gone to heaven.

Mr. Hekman reveals that God wanted him in the race. Not to be outdone, Mr. Durant believes God has a "calling" for everyone and Mr. Hoekstra made it unanimous that God wanted him in the contest, too even though "that doesn't mean we will win." Maybe God is a Democrat?

Of course it was not a total GOP Kumbaya love-in as Mr. Hoekstra and Mr. Durant disagreed over who was the real conservative in the race and when they got into it, Mr. Hekman delivered this quip "This is like two guys fighting in a row boat going over Niagara Falls." Not a bad line for a guy in third place. See the debate at wkar.org.
