Masonic lodge grand master shot and killed

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -

A gunman opens fire outside the McKibbon Masonic Lodge in northwest Detroit. Members tell Fox 2 the lodge's grand master was shot and killed.

The shooting took place Saturday afternoon on the 14,000 block of Fenkell. Police are looking for the gunman and trying to determine what led up to the shooting.

We're told Jerry Sears and other members were at the lodge cleaning in preparation for their national convention. The Masonic Lodge grand chaplain tells us Sears was gunned down while standing on the sidewalk.

"I don't know how it could happen," said Richard Obanion. "Why? We're all dumbfounded by this. Nobody knows really because he was a great guy, we all loved him and thought he was a really nice man."

The lodge's national convention begins Sunday. If you have any information, call Detroit police.
