DETROIT (WJBK) -

The Detroit Lions say a 9-year-old Detroit fundraiser will be their special guest at the preseason opener at Ford Field, when the team hosts the Cleveland Browns.

The team says it's honoring Joshua Smith on Friday night for setting up a pop-corn and lemonade stands to help raise money for Detroit after hearing of the city's budget deficit.

Smith raised $3,600 from the sale of snacks and drinks at a stand in front of his parents' house on Detroit's west side. He delivered a $2,832.64 check to the City of Detroit last Friday and received the esteemed "Spirit of Detroit" award Tuesday to honor his generosity.
