Gift of Life license plate now available for Mich. drivers

The Gift of Life license plate to promote organ, tissue and eye donation and the Michigan Organ Donor Registry went on sale this morning.
Senator John J. Gleason and his wife Karen were among the first of Michigan residents to purchase the new Gift of Life license plate. Gleason, an organ transplant recipient himself, was the sponsor of legislation that created the fundraising plates.
Ten dollars from the sale of the plates, which can be purchased through the Secretary of State, will go to the new Thomas Daley Gift of Life Fund.
"There are thousands of people in Michigan waiting for an organ donation. One organ donor can change the lives of as many as 50 people," said Senator Gleason. "I'm grateful every day for the opportunity I received. I hope this plate will help raise awareness and will help to save many lives."
Michigan currently allows citizens to become an organ donor through the Secretary of State's office. To learn more, visit www.giftoflifemichigan.org.
