DETROIT (WJBK) -

A Detroit shoe store is offering DPS high school students free shoes for the new school year, but the offer comes with one condition.

Bob's Classic Kicks will give any student a pair of new Nike sneakers if that child goes to school on Count Day.

"A large way that we can give back to the community is [to] give back shoes.  That's what we sell here.  So we know there's a need for shoes in the community.  70 to 80 percent of all Detroit public high school students are on free or reduced lunch, so therefore we decided one way we can give back is giving every student a pair of shoes that comes to school on Count Day," said Christian Dorsey.

Attendance on Count Day will determine the funds each school district will receive from the state.

This year's count day is October third.  If they show up, students will get a voucher to order their new shoes.

Anyone interested in donating to the program or becoming a sponsor can call (313) 832-7513.
