BRAvo event supports free mammogram program

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -

Each year, approximately 40,000 women die from breast cancer in the United States. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths for women, and early detection can save a life.

As part of McLaren Macomb's commitment to a healthier community, the hospital has launched BRAvo for Women, a free mammogram program for uninsured women in Macomb County. The BRAvo for Women program is designed to ensure that women without health insurance have access to mammogram's.

Funding for the program was provided through BRAvo, a yearly event designed to increase awareness of breast cancer issues and prevention. Started in 2010, this fun evening features the winning entries in a bra decorating challenge and a live auction of celebrity-autographed bras.

The event has enabled the McLaren Macomb Healthcare Foundation to raise funds for the BRAvo for Women free mammogram program.

To request an application or for more information, please call the Bravo for Women 24-hour message line at (586) 493-3474 or visit www.mclaren.org/bravo.

BRAvo Night 2012 will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at The Mirage, 16980 18 Mile Road in Clinton Township. This year's theme is "Mardi Bra: Unmasking Breast Cancer."
Tickets to BRAvo Night are $40 each. For ticket information, call (586) 741-4330.
