DETROIT (WJBK) -

A student-built robot and an Olympian took the mound prior to the Tigers-Blue Jays contest Wednesday for the game's ceremonial first pitch.

The robot, dubbed "Cyber-Young," was designed and built from the ground up by a group of 20 students from several local high schools, including Novi, Troy, Bishop Foley, Waterford Kettering and Monroe County High Schools.

From just in front of the mound, the "Cyber-Young" capitalized on its pitch, shooting a strike into the mit of Tigers mascot Paws.

After that, gold medalist Jordyn Wieber threw out a pitch. The DeWitt native was in town to meet fans earlier in the day at an AT&T store in Novi.

Wieber was part of the women's gymnastics team at the London Summer Olympics.

The Tigers went on to beat the Blue Jays 3-2.
