Tampa residents can expect to see fighter jets and other aircrafts in the sky Friday morning as part of an air defense exercise in preparation for the Republican National Convention.
Throughout the RNC, Air Force fighter jets will detect, deter and defend any aviation threats.
"Planning for and providing the air defense for special security events, like this year's Republic National Convention, are a part of our everyday mission," said Col. Randy Spear, 601st Air and Space Operations Center commander, in a media release.
The exercise, "Amalgam Virgo," will begin at 9 and is being held in coordination with the Federal Aviation Administration, U.S. Secret Service, U.S. Coast Guard, Air Security Operations Center and the Continental U.S. NORAD Region's Eastern Air Defense Sector, according to a release.
