-- Lynn Keezer recently called Fox 2 about an old Detroit windshield shop on West Grand River that appears to be in danger of collapsing.

On Thursday morning, the hazardous structure met a wrecking crew.

People who drive that portion of Grand River literally gave us a thumbs up and honked their horns so happy that a dilapidated building and safety hazard will finally get some attention.

"These windshields appear to be very old, which contain lead, and if (they were to fall, they could) severe your head right off your shoulders," said Keezer.

She runs an auto repair shop just a few feet away from the building that looks like it could fall at any moment.  It has been like this since May when someone drove through it.  Now it's supported by only a few wooden beams.  Large windshields appear to be dangerously close to the edge.  The sidewalk is blocked, but the orange barrels offer little protection to pedestrians.

Now the city is finally going to knock the building down.

"They're informing us that per the building safety inspector that this building will ... have emergency demolition done and the building will be on the ground by this Wednesday," Keezer explained.

The mayor's office confirmed this building was inspected last week after a report filed by Fox 2's Ron Savage.  The Building Department expedited a permit to have the eyesore knocked down within 72 hours.

"Awesome.  Thanks to Fox 2, we got people rolling.  They did something I tried all summer to do, that's get somebody's attention to get this hazard off the street," Keezer said.
