GARDEN CITY, Mich. (MyFox Detroit) -

Melissa Tourle came home to find a man trapped in his truck, which had slammed into her house on Rush Street in Garden City.  He allegedly tried to fire at officers with an assault rifle.

"He did make some comments to suggest that our officers were in more jeopardy than we realized had the gun not malfunctioned," said Garden City Police Chief Bob Muery.

It all started at Merriman and Warren where the man is accused of robbing the Dearborn Financial Credit Union before leading police on a chase that ended with two loud bangs -- one from hitting the house, the other when police say he shot at them and the gun malfunctioned.

The house has major damage. The dogs that were inside the house were startled from the impact.

By 5:00 p.m. Tuesday evening, the truck was being wheeled away. So was the suspect in a police cruiser. He is now awaiting multiple charges.

The suspect is not yet being identified. He is a white male in his forties from Dearborn.
