Researchers compare organic and conventionally grown foods

Posted: Updated:
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (MyFoxDetroit) -

Stanford University doctors found going organic at the market may not be that much healthier for you.

When compared to non-organic, organically grown foods have little difference in vitamins and nutrients.  Eating organic can reduce your exposure to pesticides, although the amount of pesticides in conventionally grown foods was found to be within safe limits.

A good rule of thumb to follow when shopping for produce - if you're going to peel away a tough outer skin, skip the organic and buy conventional.

Check out The Environmental Working Group's guide to the most and least contaminated produce at www.ewg.org.
