Friday night is almost upon us and another edition of the Fox 2's Friday Night Blitz is right around the corner. This week is another jam packed slate of games, so let's get it rolling....
One of the major games this week will take place down in the Detroit Public School League. Number one in the state, Detroit Cass Tech, will take on the Phoenix of Detroit Renaissance. Cass Tech will look to keep their strong play going as they come off last week's 57-0 whipping of Detroit Northwestern. Cass's vaunted defense has been as strong as ever holding their opponents to only 18 points combined in the last two weeks. Their special teams have also been a major factor in their hot play, as Senior Jourdan Lewis returned a punt and a kickoff for a touchdown last week.
Renaissance will also be looking to continue what they were able to accomplish last week in their big win over Detroit Western International. The Phoenix were able to make plays all over the field in route to a 41-6 win. The win puts them at 1-1 on the season. They won't be afraid of the tough competition that Cass brings to the table as they already have taken on a tough Farmington Hills Harrison team. In order for Renaissance to pull the upset they will have to slow down the Technicians Sophomore quarterback Jayru Campbell who has been the key to their offense so far this season.
This contest will take place at 7pm at Cass Tech High School.
Lieutenant Dan's Prediction: Cass Tech 25, Renaissance 6
Another one of the week's big time matchups is between second ranked Utica Eisenhower and Clinton Township Chippewa Valley. Eisenhower, fresh off a 56-0 smashing of their rival Utica Ford, will want to keep it going this week as Chippewa Valley is no slouch. Utica has been led by a balanced attack to this point of the young season. Running back Shane King and quarterback Joe Zerafa have each contributed and made this Eisenhower offense one tough beast to stop. The defense has also come up large in their blanking of Ford and only giving up 14 points to Port Huron. The stout D is led by a linebacking unit who fly's all over the field.
Chippewa Valley will look to bounce back after last week's heart breaking 21-14 loss to Romeo. The Big Reds will need a much better performance on both sides of the ball if they are able to hang with this Eisenhower team. Chippewa Valley is led by running back Graylyn Claiborne who's averaged 7.7 yards a carry and scored two touchdowns. They will need to get better play out of their quarterback, Brendan Rohlfs, who has completed less than 50 percent of his passes.
This clash will take place at Clinton Township Chippewa Valley
Lieutenant Dan's Prediction: Utica Eisenhower 27, Chippewa Valley 21
Other games to watch this week: Detroit Country Day vs. Birmingham Seaholm, Troy vs. Rochester Hills Stoney Creek, and Wyandotte Roosevelt vs. Trenton
