Jim Townsend is a Michigan State Representative from Royal Oak. He is also a delegate for the Democratic National Convention and throughout the event he will write a daily blog myFOXdetroit.com. You can also hear Jim this week as he calls in a report during the Fox 2 Mornings show around 7:45 a.m.
(Charlotte, NC) Charlotte is a nice city full of fine and friendly people but it's too small to host such a large gathering. Lots of convention attendees were muttering about the traffic and how far away many of the host hotels were. Detroit would be a much better destination for an event of this magnitude. If we can host one of the best Superbowls ever, a Democratic National Convention would be well within our capacity.
Impressions about the Convention Session
Disclaimer: this is my first DNC, so I can't compare what I'm seeing to anything I've personally experienced in the past, however, I have watched many conventions.
There was a lot of energy in the hall. I was surprised and how many standing ovations occurred throughout the evening, not just during the prime time speeches.
Michele Obama's Speech
One of the best performances I've seen at any convention. She set the tone for the convention and, potentially, beyond. Why? Because nobody knows Barack Obama better than Michele and she gave a stirring and heartfelt speech about her husband, their shared values and why they are on the side of the middle class and those struggling to stay there or get there.
Michele's most important line?
"Being president doesn't change who you are; it reveals who you are." The American people know who Barack Obama is. They are still trying to figure out who Mitt Romney is.
