Forbes: Lions valued at $855M, fourth lowest in the NFL

Posted: Updated:

Only three NFL franchises are valued at less than the Detroit Lions, according to Forbes Magazine.

In its annual list of the football's most valuable teams, the Lions rank No. 27 in the league at a value of $855 million. Only the Atlanta Falcons ($837M), Buffalo Bills ($805M) and Oakland Raiders ($785M) rank lower.

According to the report, Detroit pulled in $231 million in revenue last season, tied for the last in the league with the St. Louis Rams. And when it comes operating income (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization), only the Oakland Raiders (-$15.2M) lost more than Detroit (-$4.6M).

Owner Jerry Jones' Dallas Cowboys top the list with a value of $2.1 billion. In fact, Forbes says 20 of the NFL's 30 franchise are valued at over $1 billion. Much of the Jones' revenue comes from sponsorship deals at Cowboys Stadium and the distribution of their own merchandise, the only team in the league to do so.
