A California woman who authorities say tried to enter Detroit's City Hall with a gun in her purse is being charged with carrying a concealed weapon.
The Wayne County prosecutor's office on Thursday announced the charge against 52-year-old Elmira Sutton of Pittsburg. If convicted she faces up to five years in prison.
Sutton was scheduled to appear in court later Thursday. The prosecutor's office says she didn't have a lawyer on record when the charge was announced.
Authorities say she was stopped Tuesday afternoon along with a man from California at the security gate on the ground floor of the Coleman Young Municipal Center.
City Hall has guards, metal detectors and other screening for the public.
