Fox 2 and the Detroit Zoo went looking for a few good reporters and the search was a big success.
More than 65 video entries were submitted in the first-ever Jr. Detroit Zoo reporter contest.
The staff at both the Detroit Zoo and Fox 2 were amazed at how many quality videos were turned in. From 1-65, all the kids truly did a great job.
A random drawing narrowed the field to 15 and from there a panel of judges chose three to officially offer a TV News report for the Detroit Zoo.
The judges had a hard time choosing just three, so all 15 finalists were invited to the Fox 2 Studio for a chance to get a behind the scenes look at how a newscast is created.
The kids received a tour and spent time on the set in front of the live-camera during a Fox 2 Mornings show.
Jason Carr has some fun with the kids and then he announced the three winners. Play the video in the player above to catch the whole experience.
Look for a news report on the air soon from the following three Jr. Zoo Reporters:
Donavin Yarbrough | Madeline Sanderson | Roni Kane
Thanks to everyone who participated in the contest and congratulations once again on some very good reporting efforts. There are dozens of future reporters in this group, should they choose to pursue the career path. The world needs good story tellers.
