DETROIT (MyFox Detroit) -

Another young life has been lost to violence in the City of Detroit. This time a 14-year-old boy was found shot to death.

Police say the teen was at the Valero on Grand Boulevard when a group of men walked in and announced they were robbing the gas station. The 14-year-old ran from the store, but the suspects fired shots.

Andre Smith told Fox 2 his son found the teen's body.

"My son and his friend (were) driving down the Boulevard. They (saw) the boy laying on the side. They thought he was a bum or something asleep, so they pulled over and nudged him (to) see (if he was) asleep. They (saw) he was dead, so the flagged the police down to come over there, and they walked up on him and said, 'Yeah, he dead.'"

Sources told Fox 2 the teen was shot once in the head.

Detroit has seen almost 40 homicides in September alone.

"It's so much crime that it's just bad in the neighborhood. People (are) being found dead, beat up. It's just ridiculous, so the key is almost adjusting to it, which is sad," Smith said.
