Doctor devises plan to stop aging

Dr. Mike Moreno's bestselling weight loss book, The 17 Day Diet, became an instant #1 New York Times bestseller when it was published in March 2011, and has remained on the list for more than a year.

Now, in THE 17 DAY PLAN TO STOP AGING, he identifies the 5 factors that determine your aging: inflammation, oxidative stress, glycation, methylation, and immune impairment. Dr. Moreno subscribes to the idea that each of us is only as young as our least healthy body part.

A 4-cycle plan that is the heart of the book, focusing on nine vital bodily systems:

Lungs: A diet of shellfish, meat, eggs, leafy vegetables, and other foods loaded with Vitamin B12and folic acid helps to prevent serious lung diseases caused by methylation.

Heart: Eating salmon, walnuts, and other foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids can reduce the inflammation that causes heart attacks.

Brain: Brush your teeth and floss regularly-people with gum disease have worse memories than those who brush and floss for a full two minutes at least once per day.

Immune: White foods-breads, pastas, rice, sugar-crowd your body with excessive glucose and prevent your white blood cells from working as quickly as they need to.

Digestive: Cruciferous veggies like broccoli, contain enzymes that can help remove harmful substances and bacteria in your gut, which can actually help prevent certain cancers

Hormones: Manage your portion sizes so you don't end up with insulin problems as your pancreas ages.

Musculoskeletal: Learn how NEAT (non-exercise activity thermogenesis) can keep your joints and muscles more limber.

Reproductive: Dehydration can negatively impact sperm production, so keep hydrated!

Urinary: Cranberry juice can prevent urinary infections by cleansing 'bad bacteria.'
