BROCKWAY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (MyFox Detroit) -

Police say a St. Clair County teen was fatally shot when hunters appear to have mistaken him for a coyote.

St. Clair County Sheriff Tim Donnellon says 17-year-old Devon Derouin was scouting for deer in Brockway Twp. around 7:30 p.m. Thursday. At the same time, Donnellon says three hunters had been given permission to hunt coyote on the same parcel of land. A 24-year-old Port Huron Twp. man saw movement in nearby brush, believed it was an animal and fired one shot from 150 yards way that fatally struck Derouin.

Donnellon says the incident remains under investigation and that all parties involved are cooperating.
