Engineering Society of Detroit to host job fair Oct. 1

The Engineering Society of Detroit (ESD) is hosting over 40 of Michigan's largest engineering, technology and management corporations during a job fair on Monday, Oct. 1.

The 2012 Fall Engineering & Technology Job Fair will take place between 2 - 7 p.m. at the Suburban Collection Showplace (46100 Grand River Ave.) in Novi.

Companies will be seeking applicants in the following areas:
· Aerospace
· Architects
· Biofuels
· Biomedical
· Chemical
· Civil
· Computer
· Defense
· Design
· Electrical
· Energy
· Environmental
· Manufacturing
· Mechanical
· Programming
· Transportation
· Technical and other engineering and technology related fields.

ESD members can attend the even for free. Non-members costs are $10.

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. — Engineering and technical jobs are plenty in Michigan; qualified candidates are scarce. This new reality that began to impact Michigan almost a year ago is now reaching a critical stage and The Engineering Society of Detroit (ESD) and its Institute are working diligently to make Michigan the hub for engineers once again.

On Monday, October 1, 2012 ESD and its Institute will convene a group of leaders representing labor, business, academia and private organizations to address this issue, discuss possible solutions and create a blueprint for a viable, employable workforce. Panel representatives will be challenged to address the following question:

"If you were creating an employable workforce of factory, technical, and engineering talent, what would it look like and how would you implement it?"

ACADEMIC:

Bill Sower, Director, Christopher and Virginia Sower Center for Successful Schools, South Lyon

Mary Kovari, Principal, Detroit Institute of Technology High School

BUSINESS:

Rich Wells - Vice President and Site Director Michigan Operations at Dow Chemical, Midland

ESD INSTITUTE:

Christopher J. Webb, J.D., FESD, Co-Director, The Engineering Society of Detroit Institute

HIGHER ED:

Gail Mee, PhD - President, Henry Ford Community College, Dearborn
