DETROIT (WJBK) -

A local woman is getting ready for a double lung transplant.  It will be her second transplant this month.

38-year-old Heather Wendt is a fighter.  She received her first set of lungs on September 8.  Unfortunately, her body rejected the lungs and time was quickly running out for a second set.

Wendt's blood type is Rh-negative and it's rare to get Rh-negative lungs, but Wednesday good news arrived for her and her family.  A doctor flew a thousand miles to get her new lungs and bring them back.

While they waited, friends and family held a vigil outside Henry Ford Hospital in downtown Detroit.

Wendt's second double lung transplant will take place at midnight Thursday.
