PITTSFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -- Two children from Canton and a man from Ypsilanti Township have been critically injured after their car slammed into two trees in Washtenaw County.

Pittsfield Township Department of Public Safety officials say in a release that excessive speed is being investigated as a possible cause of the 6:32 p.m. Sunday crash.

Six unidentified people were in the car when the 23-year-old man driving went off the road and hit two trees. The car landed in a ditch.

Three boys and one girl, all from Canton, the driver and a 27-year-old passenger from Ypsilanti Township were taken to area hospitals.

The driver, an 11-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy were listed in critical condition Sunday night. Police say their condition was not immediately known Monday.

No further details were released.
