ROYAL OAK, Mich. -- Skull and bones decanters and drink swizzle sticks, cheeky man cave decor, coffee table books about bands, you'll find it all at Scout, a modern, happy, chic decor store on Washington in Royal Oak.

"It's like a strange mix of things that are well put together," said Pam McLenon, the groovy, laid back owner.

"I've had several people... come in here and say they've been having a bad day and they just want to come in because the store makes them happy, which is the biggest compliment, really."

There is soap, jewelry, scarves, clocks, candles and even far out furniture.

"I love Jonathan Adler items, and it seems like he has an affinity for seventies' items, as well," said McLenon.

There is even a children's section that's hip alternative.  If you're trying to raise a mod kid, you'll probably find something there.

McLenon has an iPod filled with eclectic tunes for the store's soundtrack, and when you visit, be sure to say hello to Ditto the dog.
